From a 1,000-lei fine to 15 days in jail: what the new child-support law changes for parents in Ungheni
Parliament has adopted a law replacing the up-to-1,000-lei fine for parents who fail to pay child support with up to 15 days of arrest, unpaid community work and a ban on leaving the country — enforced right at the border. For a border district like Ungheni, with the Sculeni crossing and hundreds of divorces a year, the border provision is no abstraction. Nationwide, only 4.7% of parents pay support regularly.
